Just two months after the rapper’s account was restored, Twitter Inc. suspended Kanye West’s account once more on Friday due to the rapper’s tweets breaking the social media platform’s rules.
Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter and self-described “absolutist” of free speech, had greeted Ye’s return to the social media platform in October.
Late on Thursday, Musk wrote in his most recent tweet, “I tried my best. Despite this, he once more transgressed our prohibition against inciting violence. The account will be put on hold. Twitter also blocked one of Ye’s tweets. Within an hour of Musk’s response to a Twitter user who requested “Elon Fix Kanye Please,” his account was suspended.
A request for comment from Twitter did not immediately receive a response.Ye’s account, which had more than 30 million followers, was suspended after Twitter restricted one of his tweets. The post’s contents could not be independently verified by Reuters.
Before Elon Musk’s $44 billion buyout of the social media site was complete, the website restored the rapper’s account. Musk then emphasised that he had no involvement with Ye returning to Twitter.
Ye posted a picture of Hollywood mogul Ari Emanuel using a hose to splash water at Elon Musk’s back on Thursday. Before the account was suspended, he captioned the photo, “Let’s always remember this as my final tweet #ye24.
“Ye’s account was suspended, Musk retorted, for inciting violence rather than for posting “an unflattering photo of me being hosed by Ari.”
Twitter unbanned or suspended a number of contentious accounts in November, including those of the satirical website Babylon Bee and the comic Kathy Griffin.Musk also made the decision to restore the account of former US President Donald Trump after the majority of Twitter users supported Trump’s reinstatement in a poll.
