Citadel review (first two episodes): Priyanka Chopra’s spy thriller promises to be a paisa-vasool entertainer

Citadel

The tale of two spies on a perilous mission is CITADEL. Secret agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) work for Citadel, a large international organization. They are on a mission to steal uranium from a passenger on a train in the Italian Alps.

They quickly discover that it’s all a setup and that the uranium reports were made up to tempt the Citadel spies. Mason and Nadia also discover that Manticore, a group that has plans to exterminate all Citadel spies worldwide, is behind it. The Manticore goons are attacked by Mason and Nadia, and an explosion results from the ensuing hysteria. Mason suffers an injury, and when he awakens, he is in a Bellagio, Italy, hospital. The US Embassy is unable to locate his family or friends since he has lost his memory. Mason is now 8 years old and thriving in Eugene, Oregon. Hendrix (Caoilinn Springall), his daughter, is the product of his marriage to Abby (Ashleigh Cummings). Mason frequently experiences flashes of Nadia but is unable to recall much else.

He is asked by a therapist to send his DNA samples to a government database since doing so would enable him to find his family. Mason’s former coworker and fellow ex-Citadel member Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) discovers Mason’s existence via the database. As Manticore is currently very active and could perhaps try to assassinate Mason, he transports him and his family to a safehouse in Wyoming. On the other hand, the CIA had kept a bag in Miami that contained information about members of the Citadel safely. It is taken by the Manticore goons. They cannot open the bag because it is code-locked, thus. They therefore transport the bag to New York. Mason is asked to help Bernard steal this briefcase with him. At first, Mason declines since he cannot recall him as a spy.

However, Bernard explains to him the reason for his quick responses and warns him that if the suitcase is opened, the planet will be destroyed. Mason unexpectedly succeeds in stealing the suitcase, and he and Bernard then flee. When Mason examines the briefcase, he learns that Nadia is still alive and is currently located in Valencia, Spain. Mason and Bernard are attacked by the Manticore members.

On the other hand, there are several cinematic liberties, as is typical in such scenarios. It’s a little difficult to comprehend how Mason is able to steal the briefcase so coolly, and in such a high-security setting. The reasons behind Dahila’s behavior are also unclear. Given that there are still four more episodes to go, one must give the producers the benefit of the doubt.

Speaking of performances, Priyanka Chopra Jonas puts on a fantastic show and looks lovely. While performing the action, she appears believable. Her minimal screen time in the first two episodes may surprise some of her fans. The first few episodes are dominated by Richard Madden, who is pretty entertaining. His understatement of his contribution serves him well. On the other side, Stanley Tucci plays to the audience and generates a lot of chuckles. In supporting roles, Ashleigh Cummings and Caoilinn Springall do alright. Lesley Manville is comparable. The rest are all good.
