Bhumi Pednekar, a climate warrior, has set out on a major effort to clean up the Himalayas! On the occasion of World Earth Day, Bhumi revealed that she is collaborating with Healing Himalayas, a nonprofit organization that performs significant and outstanding work to preserve the ecology in the mountain range. Bhumi Pednekar, who also serves as an ambassador for the UNDP, will now represent Healing Himalayas as its goodwill ambassador! As part of her work with Healing Himalayas, Bhumi Pednekar will visit these mountainous areas and take part in cleanliness campaigns aimed at maintaining The Himalayas’ cleanliness.

Founded seven years ago, the Healing Himalayas Foundation is dedicated to preserving the Himalayas’ pristine natural environment as a means of combating the rubbish problem. The charity has embarked on the difficult task of clearing the magnificent Himalayas of rubbish. Their main goal is to alleviate the waste management issue by gathering masses of non-biodegradable rubbish left behind by hikers or pilgrims and properly disposing of it in the base town or metropolis, where it can also be recycled.

They have constructed five material recovery facilities in places with high tourist foot traffic, including Mansari in the Kullu district, Rakcham and Pooh village in Kinnaur, Tabo in Spiti, and Narkanda in the Shimla district, to handle the waste they have collected through their cleanup campaigns and numerous panchayats that are a part of our Zero waste villages. The five facilities are all in use, and since last year, they have collected about 550 tonnes of non-biodegradable garbage everyday, or 4-5 tonnes each facility.

When discussing this partnership, Bhumi Pednekar said, “The Healing Himalayas motto, “Don’t Wait for Change, Be the Change,” really struck a chord with me. I think it’s important for each of us to recognize our obligations to the environment and make a concerted effort to lessen the effects of pollution and global warming. Now is the moment to take action! I have the opportunity to discuss the critical need to protect the Himalayas and its delicate yet vital environment thanks to this campaign. It is an honor for me to serve as the Healing Himalayas’ goodwill ambassador. During my term, I will make every effort to visit as many locations as I can and take part in efforts to spread the word about this vital cause.

The Healing Himalayas Foundation’s founder and leader, Pradeep Sangwan, continued, “Bhumi Pednekar has steadfastly and unwaveringly advocated against climate change and pollution. She is an intelligent person who is respected by the nation’s youth. Therefore, having her involved in this campaign helps us spread the word about how important it is to protect the environment in our mountains and how to keep them clean. We are confident that working together, we can maintain the Himalayas clean.

Bhumi Pednekar has been a vocal proponent of addressing climate change through her social media platforms and has frequently called attention to the efforts of local climate activists. She has also spoken about the need of preserving our world at the esteemed Harvard University.
